Shallow Gallery: A Thousand Small Brown Birds by W.M. Pollard & Amy Lay-Pettifer

Mur-mur, mur-mur, mur-mur; yes, it is a little refrain that gets the tempo going, a little flicker of time… Yve Lomax, A Twittering Noise

The river Memel now known as the Nemunas; A European river that rises in central Belarus and flows through an area of Lithuania historically known as ‘Memelland’ in East Prussia along the Baltic Sea.

As the season shifts, a murmuration amasses outside the shopping centre and there is a daily refrain - like birdsong but not - that settles under the traffic on Silbury Boulevard. This site-specific installation, a collaboration between artist Bill Pollard and writer Amy Lay-Pettifer, draws on a shared interest in how patterns found in nature clash, echo and resonate against personal memory and day-to-day life.

Presented by Arts Central Studios and curated by Rookie Services, Shallow Gallery is a public art platform celebrating contemporary artists and Milton Keynes’ creative community.

Discover the gallery to the left of the Field Walk entrance (Door 13), next to Next. The exhibition is open to the public 24/7.
