The Language of Bees

Worker bees can communicate using a combination of rotating body movements and shakes. These have been proven to convey information to their sisters, regarding the proximity of a food source they have recently discovered and its direction relative to the suns position.

This  allows their sisters to fly and obtain more food from the same source - the phenomenon has been described as the "Waggle Dance" and is amazing to observe.

This can be observed as a short film on the "dances with bees" website - well worth the visit!   -    http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/bees/danceswagg.html
