North Bucks Beekeepers’ Association

This Association allows you to meet local beekeepers & discuss all things to do with beekeeping & honey production. You can open a hive in the presence of experienced beekeepers & get advice on where to site an apiary. You are able to handle bees at the Association’s Apiary & acquire skills at little cost. You will be able to learn the basic rules of beekeeping & have your questions answered regarding the craft. You can accompany experienced beekeepers when they go to take swarms & when they extract honey.

The Association  :

Runs theoretical & practical courses for beginners & for those who wish to increase their beekeeping knowledge

Holds regular meetings where guest speakers talk on a wide range of bee related subjects

Runs training apiaries where members are welcome to learn all aspects of handling bees

Operates a discount purchase scheme which allows members to buy essential items at a lower cost

Issues an annual yearbook & regular newsletters

Lends extracting equipment for a small charge

Lends from a comprehensive collection of books, videos & slides & can point you to the ones that are most useful

Shares information, events & meetings with neighbouring bee associations

If you are an aspiring beekeeper, NBBKA will loan you specialist equipment such as veils & bee jackets until you decide whether you want to continue the craft. What is more, if you do decide to go ahead, many items can be obtained second hand thus keeping the initial outlay to a modest size.
